Welcome to the SIETAR Congress “Cultures in Transition”
 
The SIETAR Congress 2004 (Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research) will address the multi-faceted aspects of transition processes in the intercultural field by exploring the current state as well as the transformative forces in the political, economic, cultural and social space.

Cross-cultural interaction has been shown to have a powerful impact in forcing individuals, organisations and societies across the globe to confront a world in which traditional lines and distinctions between institutions, subject areas and individual roles are in transition.

The term “transition” implies that ‘something’ is altered from an initial condition through the impact and effects of various influences. By emphasizing the dynamics of change, the process itself becomes topical, demanding a closer look at the theoretical and practical frameworks designed to grasp the performative forces at work.
